Album launch

Darkstar and local young people’s charity Global Diversity and seminal electronic label Warp Records are proud to present a free evening of live music and creative discussion at the Bates Mill arts space in Huddersfield on Friday 25/09/15.

The evening will feature a live performance from Darkstar, whose third album ‘Foam Island’ is released via Warp on the day itself, and a panel discussion on “Developing Youth Creativity and the Creative Industries in Huddersfield & Beyond”.

The discussion will feature Darkstar member James Young, Huddersfield based fashion designer Beniah Matheson, Global Diversity’s Dominic Mills, and Warp Records A&R Stephen Christian. Anthony Caton, founder of the locally based boutique marketing agency AC-PR, will moderate the talk, which will end with questions from the audience.

The panel will explore how best to develop a creative project in 2015, the avenues open to young people to do so in the current social and economic climate, and discuss the themes of ‘Foam Island’ and how they relates to the local area.

Over the recording of ‘Foam Island’ electronic duo Darkstar – whose members grew up in nearby areas of Yorkshire and Cheshire – spent time working with Global Diversity to engage with local youth, forming much of the album’s concept from the conversations they had and subsequently sampling them for use across the album’s tracks.

Warp Records are responsible for some of the UK’s most acclaimed electronic music, including Aphex Twin, Mount Kimbie, Brian Eno, Rustie and Hudson Mohawke.
